Pressure-sensitive adhesive is compatible with a variety of metal finishes and allows for fast, simple installation with no welding required.

  1. Thoroughly clean the existing membrane (and metal, if applicable) with Weathered Membrane Cleaner and natural fiber rags.
  2. Roller-apply TPO Primer to the area of the membrane and metal to be flashed using a short nap paint roller. The properly primed area should appear uniform in color, without streaks, globs, or puddles. Do not use TPO Primer on TPO membrane.
  3. Ensure the entire surface where the flashing will be applied is clean. The adhesive on the back of the TPO Coverstrip will not adhere to dusty or dirty surfaces. Any surface contamination will reduce bond strength.
  4. Install the TPO Coverstrip immediately after the TPO Primer flashes off to minimize dust contamination and promote adhesion, especially in colder weather.
  5. Peel off 10–12″ (250–300 mm) of the protective release liner from the TPO Coverstrip. Position the flashing over the area to be covered and press down using firm, even hand pressure across the entire area. Continue this process until the full area is covered. (Note: Cut-Edge Sealant is not required on edges of the TPO Coverstrip.)
  6. Immediately roll the TPO Coverstrip with a 2″-wide (50 mm) silicone roller using positive pressure. Roll across the coverstrip edge, not parallel to its length. In areas where the TPO Coverstrip crosses a metal joint, membrane seam (T-joint), or end lap, use a hot-air gun to heat the top surface of the TPO Coverstrip and crease it into the step-off to prevent water channeling.
  7. For proper adhesion when jobsite temperatures are below 40°F (5°C), heat the cleaned and primed membrane area with a hot-air gun as the flashing is applied and pressed into place.
  • TPO Coverstrip cannot be used for flashing corners, pipes, T-joints, butt joints on FleeceBACK TPO systems, or any angled metal flanges such as gravel stops or other canted metal edgings.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with skin. In case of contact, wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Prolonged jobsite storage temperatures above 90°F (32°C) may reduce product shelf life.
  • In warm, sunny weather, keep TPO Coverstrip rolls in the box or a shaded area until ready to use.
  • Storage and use below 40°F (4°C) will result in reduced adhesive tack and may cause inadequate bonding. Store overnight in a heated area maintaining at least 40°F (4°C). Use hot boxes for jobsite storage when necessary.
  • Store TPO Coverstrip in a dry area.
  • Condensation may form on freshly applied TPO Primer when ambient temperature is near the dew point. If condensation occurs, stop the application. Allow the surface to dry, then apply a thin freshener coat of TPO Primer before resuming when conditions improve.
  • Do not allow petroleum, grease, oil, solvents, vegetable or mineral oils, animal fats, or direct steam venting to contact the coverstrip.
  • KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

FlexGuard TPO Coverstrip is intended to strip in flat metal flanges (i.e. drip edge or self-flashing curb flanges).

NOTE: FlexGuard TPO Coverstrip cannot be used for flashing corners, pipes, T-joints or butt joints on FleeceBACK® TPO systems or any angled metal flanges such as gravel stops or other canted metal edgings
